THE RANDOM GENEALOGIST- MISSION STATEMENT/ VALUES
Welcome to The Random Genealogist.
The Random Genealogist was created to help people discover their roots and connect with family, to make available random pieces of information that may be otherwise over looked, to offer an alternative to expensive paid sites, and to explore history while connecting it to the people who lived it. The Random Genealogist strives to offer little known historic information, stories and events and to help the novice researcher understand the information they are discovering so they can put the pieces of their own family puzzle together more accurately.
We at The Random Genealogist believe that we are all a product of our history, threads in the tapestry of life, interwoven to create a world of wonder and beauty. All of today’s tragedies and triumphs the world over were shaped and molded by the events and peoples of the past, just as our actions and accidents will shape the future. History is made up, not of heroes or adventurers, but of ordinary people, faced with extraordinary circumstances, hardships or opportunities, that chose to act rather than to stand still.
The Random Genealogist is a celebration of life, of family and of the men and women from whom we all sprang, good, bad or indifferent. We celebrate cultural diversity and encourage everyone to embrace and champion their own unique heritage.
What you will find on this site
As the name implies, you will find here a collection of random tips, interesting article, photos, and family histories. Together we will explore some cemeteries, review family histories and discuss historic events. You will find family histories of random people, some found in cemetery walks, others when researching historic events still others may come from information I have saved when working on my own family tree . . My goal is to provide you with information you may not be able to find else where so that you can continue your family journey. I hope you will find it useful.
Please note that family histories that I place here are not meant to be complete and will likely have omissions and errors as I am researching random strangers, so I do not have the same information one has when they start their own family history. Information in histories comes exclusively from internet searches or cemetery visits. Information is verified to the best of my ability before I place it in a history. Sources include news paper articles, census reports, military and immigration information.
I love to get mail
and I greatly enjoy your feedback and corrections. . If you would like to share information and have it published here, or if you have questions that I may be able to help you with, please drop me a line.(see below) If you are searching for a missing family member or just starting out on your journey you can send in a letter with the information you have and your questions. Letters will be chosen at random for a search and publication to this site.
Private Research, look-ups and comprehensive histories
Private research, look ups and comprehensive histories will be completed for a reasonable fee.
As you can imagine, a comprehensive family history is a very time consuming project. I offer my services at a reasonable cost by the project, rather than by the hour, which would be prohibitively expensive. A Family history, complete with framed family tree, is a unique and lasting gift. Histories are typically web based unless they are very local to the Finger Lakes region of NY. Where applicable I will send letters or travel to a location to gain additional information as available and necessary. All sources will be cited in the history.
If you are working on your history and would like some assistance with editing, reviewing for accuracy, adding source citations, etc. I can do this. It can be a time consuming process so I charge a flat rate.
In the future I will also be adding some additional items for sale, such as books of completed family histories and other Items of interest. Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting expansion.
RESEARCH FEES
general research- $25.00 per hour
General Edit work-$100.00
