More on the Thomas Coats Family of Newbury Mass.

  So we see that of the  Charles Coates family, following the revolution there is only one son remaining to carry the Coates Name into future generations, that being John Coates who moved his family to Eaton Quebec around 1010.  The girls married and had various children, but none carrying the Coates name.  Other sons were either lost to the war or information has not yet come to light concerning their progeny.  If additional information becomes available I will update this post.    So let's return to Thomas Coates family and see where they stand as the revolution takes hold:

Thomas' family originated in Lynn Mass.  of his children and grandchildren we only find searchable information concerning  heir producing offspring of Thomas Coats, carrying the Coats name into subsequent generations  as follow:
Children of Thomas Coats Jr. of Lynn Mass;
John Coats who married Anne Titcomb on 12/8/1725 in New bury.  John and Anne settled in Newbury and had the following children;

David Coates 10/5/1736 born at Falmouth served as a Captain in the military.  He married Mehetable Thurston on 6/24/1765.  They had one recorded daughter; Elizabeth Coates born 9/17/1766. 



Jonathan Coates 10/5/1730- married Sarah Beckett of Gloucester Mass. They had the following children;


Abraham titcomb Coates born 11/18/1753- died in infancy,

 Abraham Titcomb Coates born 10/19/1755.  No information available at this time.

Benjamin Coats 1/20/1771-1793

Sarah Coats 7/17/1757-1850 married Richard Welch 1751-1807  they had the following children; Sarah welch 1777-?, Richard Welch Jr. 1780-1855, Benjamin Welch 1782-1849, Jonathan Coates Welch 1791-1829. Elizabeth welch 1794-?

Jonathan Coats 11/27/1768-1768

David Coats 4/8/764- no further information at this time

Elizabeth Coats 11/27/1768-1816- no further information at this time

Jonathan Coats 11/27/1768- no further information at this time


James Coates (phillip's twin) born in Newbury on 3/28/1699 married Martha Rhoads on 9/27/1724.  James moved his family to Killingly, Windham, Connecticut.  He and Martha had the following children;

James Coates Jr, born 3/21/1731

Eliphelet Coates born 7/25/1734-  Married Susannah Turner on 11/29/1759.   They had the following children,all born in Windham County Conn.; Azubah Coates 8/24/1767, Azubah Coates 9/30/1769, Eliphalet Coates Jr. 2/19/1774, Hannah Coates 9/14/1764, John Coates 3/3/1776, Lydia Coates 9/22/1771, Nancy Coates 7/8/1778, Susannah Coates 8/30/1762 no further information at this time


Hannah Coates born 4/25/1737- no information at this time

Mary Coates born 7/31/1739 no information at this time

Benjamin Coates born 1/17/1744- served as a Lt in the military. Married Esther ? in Windham Conn. they had the following children; Esther Coates 3/22/1771, James Coates 1/17/1778, Lydia Coates 9/19/1772, Rachel Coates 5/11/1776


Hezekiah Coates born 2/8/1762-  served in  Connecticut Militia,  Elejs Regiment 
11 Mar 1777. no further information at this time

Susannah Coates born 8/30/1762- no information at this time
