He moved to Springfield Mass in 1792. He was a constable in Springfield in 1797 and built a house there that was used as an inn for travelers once the Western turn Pike was built. John and Mariah had the following children born in Boston Mass.:(George Coates 1795-10/9/1816 in Boston, John Coates 1797- a book binder and spend thrift on 2/29/1820 the people of Boston petitioned the court to appoint a guardian for John Coates so he would not waste his inheritance and become a public charge.
